TOO many ideas and not enough time!

I have so many things I want to blog about. Here is the quick list.

  1. Egypt and their revolution
  2. The groupon Tibet Superbowl ad
  3. Aol buying the Huffington post. Sold out to a corporation. So much for caring about their stories.
  4. Chase pulling the plug on their program to let people in the military suspend student loan payments
  5. If the cyber crack down in Egypt was really the fault of an American company who sold the spy software that helped make it possible
  6. I would love to write a blog on Anderson Silva and how amazing a fighter he is, the possible super fight between him and GSP George Saint-Pierre! and of course the involvement of Steven Segal in MMA yeah, WTF!

The problem I run into is I just don’t have enough time for a full blog. So I’m pumping my ideas out where, in hopes that I don’t lose them, and can come back to them and complete them.

Wish me luck.

The Punk Curmudgeon Post Game Show-or BEING A GOOD SPORT SUCKS!

Pittsburgh Steelers helmet

Well it was a hard-fought game. I was up and down, screaming at my tv. The dogs were freaking out. The kids and I high fiver, we cried in dismay. In the end my Steelers lost to the Packers.

The Packers deserved it. I can admit it. At Superbowl XVL they were the better team. We were a good team, we played hard and have nothing to be ashamed of. James Harrison from his twitter account @jharrison9292 tweeted sorry. My response?

@jharrison9292 Don’t be sorry. You guys played a hard game. so did the packers. I’m still a #proudsteelersfan

That is the honest truth. I think it is great that he said he was sorry, very humble of him. But they played hard and didn’t give up. It is easy to be a winner. You do nothing but be happy. Being a good sport is hard. In fact is plain ol sucks. But it’s the right way to be. I congratulate the Green Bay Packers. Tonight they were the better team. They deserve their win. I congratulated the friends I have on Facebook. We chatted back and forth in good nature during the game but when it comes down to it I’m not mad over the loss. Disappointed sure but we gave it all and left it all on the field. I can live with that.

Oh and did I mention we still have 6 Superbowl rings? More than anyone else? At least there is that. 🙂

Also I considered commenting on Christina Aguilera and her singing flub, but lets face it, she is hot and that’s about it. So who was really shocked? Not this guy.

Superbowl today!!! So much fun matter who you are a fan of!

STEELERS SUPER BOWL XLIII RING

Yep, maybe you just woke up from a coma. So let me turn you onto a huge secret. Today the Pittsburgh Steelers and the  Green Bay Packers play for the title of Superbowl XLV winner. The Superbowl is one of those events that almost everyone enjoys. You don’t have to be a huge football fan, you don’t have to be a fan of either team playing. It’s just plain old fun. You can have people over or go out. You can eat, drink and be merry. The game is fun to watch and the commercials are fun to watch and who does not like to hang out with friends? It is one of those rare win-win kind of things. So have fun! Enjoy! Sit back and watch my Steelers win their 7th championship!

Got that mountain bike ride in despite the cold!

My new mountain bike tire after my ride.

What a great day. It started off with snow this morning and looked cold. My wife went to the gym and reported to me that it was cold and windy. However after the last time where I let myself get lazy and missed out on a really nice ride I stuck to my guns today. When 11:30 rolled around I got my new cold weather gear on. I just got a Terramar half-zip winter shirt, Terramar winter pants and some Mountain Hardwear stretch gloves from http://www.sunnysports.com. I’ll be reviewing those in my next blog.

I knew if I shut off my computer, loaded up the bike and just got out I would have a great time. I sure did. It was cold, chilly really, not cold. It was snowy, icy, muddy, in other words IT WAS GREAT. I only started doing real mountain bike riding this summer and we have had a slow easy winter down off the mountains in Colorado so this was my most “wintry” ride yet. I’ve ridden in some slush, some snow and some mud but this was the biggest mix of all 3 yet.

A little info for you I don’t have a new bike. I have my old steel 98′ GT Outpost. It is a hard frame without even front suspension. I have slip-ins on my peddles, a decent seat, a rear rack for a functional fender and those handle things on the ends of my bar. It’s a great bike. It does not look like much but it rides well. Really well. I bought it new in 98′ and all I have done is one tune-up and changed the tires and the seat. Everything else is original parts. That is how well it has held up and I really give great props to GT for making such a sturdy bike.

That being said I have ridden a newer Trek. It was full suspension and weights about 1/4 of what my GT weighs. It is amazing to ride. So fast, so quick, so smooth. It is my friends bike and when I rode it the one time it was like being Superman. I could just go faster and faster and faster. I was riding on a trail with rocks, drops and big tree roots but it was like riding down the street. So much fun. The downside? It cost him $2300 dollars and that was marked down from $2900. Now sure it is worth it. I really do think it is worth it but it is only worth it if you can actually afford to drop 2k on a bike. I can not.

Getting out and riding today was a huge accomplishment for me. My first real winter ride in adverse weather conditions, in adverse riding conditions and required that I force myself to do it. But like always once I got going it was so much fun. I always feel that way. Even if I don’t want to once I start I love it. And what  a great day I have had today. I did strength training this morning, went on a bike ride, and walked the dogs with my wife. Now I’m settling in to watch the UFC prelims for UFC 126.

Exhaustion really is good for my soul.

P.S. Of course I used the Cardiotrainer app from http://www.worksmartlabs.com like always. Still hoping they will give me a bluetooth heart monitor to review. 🙂

Massive explosion hits natural gas terminal in Egypt-Is it militants or the government?

explosion

There was an explosion on a major gas pipeline in Egypt today. I see this as one of two things.

1st. It could certainly be militants taking advantage of the army’s distraction to attack a hated pipeline to Israel. Since the peace accord the supply of gas to Israel has always been an issue of contention. That is certainly plausible.

2nd. This one pushing the boundaries but it is also quite possible. It is not impossible to believe that the government did this themselves. By taking attention away from the protesters and having unrest they can blame on them it gives them an excuse to put it down. It gives them an excuse to roll in and stomp down with their steel toed boot. Safely from inside of a tank of course.

We may never really know what happened. In fact the governments own stories do not match up, but what matters is that the protestors never give up, never surrender. Keep doing what you are doing. If they can keep at it, not get discouraged or sent home they can accomplish something amazing. History is happening now in Egypt and it is so exciting.

Staying motivated, not easy when it’s cold.

A cyclist with a mountain bike gets a workout ...

Image via Wikipedia

Today I let myself down. I was wanting to go on a winter mountain bike ride on my GT in the middle of the day when it was at its warmest. I recently bought some medium duty cold weather gear from http://www.sunnysports.com and have been itching to try it out. Now you do have to understand that it has been super cold here in Colorado for the last four days. But I was all set. The forecast called for it to be 37 degrees. I ran an errand in my car and saw people commuting to work or to CSU which all got me excited to go. Than I got home and the chill set in and I wimped out. When I looked up the temp it said it was only 22 degrees out. But I should have gone outside. Later when I did go outside it didn’t even feel very cold. I was really bummed and disappointed in myself.

But I’ve learned from it, and I plan to remember this little episode and grow from it. As long as I do that and in the future don’t miss chances like today than I can live with it.

Staying motivated, pushing one’s self, that is what it is all about!
